Book Bar - A New Chapter Begins
There are bookstores, and there are bars. Then there are places that become something more entirely.
Opening its doors on June 27 and 28, 2026, Book Bar is a new space built around the idea that stories and conversation belong together. With the tagline "For thinkers and drinkers," Book Bar invites visitors to slow down, settle in, and experience the unique connection between books, food, drinks, and community.
I had the opportunity to attend a preview night and brought my parents along for the experience. From the welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, thoughtfully curated books, and meaningful conversations, it was an incredible evening and a wonderful introduction to everything Book Bar hopes to be. Check out the recap video and keep reading for a closer look at my evening at Book Bar.
Location
Book Bar is located in Mirvish Village in downtown Toronto at 600 Markham Street, near the intersection of Bloor Street West and Bathurst Street, on the former site of Honest Ed's. Shoutout to everyone who remembers Honest Ed's, that was truly an era!
For those planning a visit, paid public parking is available nearby. The location is also easily accessible by TTC, with Bathurst Station within walking distance, making it a convenient destination for both locals and visitors alike.
When stepping inside the bar, I felt like I was transported into another realm. It was like an escape from reality, and the aesthetic was immaculate. Everything felt so intentional, and I loved the balance of the bar and bookstore.
Book Selection
One of the first things that stood out was the thoughtfully curated book selection throughout the venue. Whether you're a romance reader, fantasy lover, mystery enthusiast, or literary fiction fan, the gorgeous shelves have something for everyone! I saw so many of my favourites stocked, from Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary to Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After.
Food & Drink Experience
The drinks and bites were tasty! For the preview night, Book Bar catered Black Truffles from Provisions Food Agency, which were light and rich. There was also a charcuterie board, and complimentary beer and wine were available. Other drinks available on the menu include cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.
Wrapping Things Up
If you've ever wished your favourite bookstore had great drinks, or your favourite bar had better books, Book Bar may be exactly what you've been waiting for. The atmosphere is like no other, and it’s definitely every booklover’s dream.
Thank you, Kiana, for inviting us out. Congratulations to you, Tom, Robin, and Danny on bringing this beautiful concept to life. It's truly a one-of-a-kind addition to Toronto's bookish community, and I’m already planning my next trip back!
