Book-to-Screen: Anne of Green Gables (1985)

"Because when you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worthwhile."

Some stories never lose their magic, and Anne of Green Gables is definitely one of them.

I had the opportunity to attend a Book-to-Screen event celebrating the 1985 adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, hosted by @bookswithmichellee and @wab.bookclub. Watch the recap on Instagram and keep reading for more details on how the night went!

The Outfit

The event description said “come wearing your puffiest sleeves or Anne inspired outfits,” and this green dress and white hat that I found in my mom’s closet were the most Anne of Green Gables vibes I could come up with. I think it worked well, and I even got a few compliments!

Themed Food & Drinks

The setup for the evening was so intentional! I loved seeing all of the name tags next to the food and drinks. It was so creative and well thought out.

  • Miss Stacey’s Cracker Board

  • Mrs. Barry’s Cucumber Sandwiches

  • Matthew’s Cheeseboard

  • Anne’s Caramel Chocolate (all the way from PEI!)

  • Marilla’s Raspberry Cordial (all the way from PEI!)

Screening

The movie began a little before 8:00 PM, with an intermission about halfway through, and wrapped up just before 11:00 PM.

Giveaway Raffle

We ended the night with Michelle and WAB BookClub hosting a raffle giveaway, and one lucky booklover went home with a copy of Anne of Green Gables (gifted by Tundra Books) and an Anne-themed book sleeve (gifted by Always September Shop! Everyone received a discount from Always September Shop and a cute bookmark.

Wrapping Up

I did, in fact, bring my complete collection of Anne of Green Gables that we bought in PEI back in 2008. It was a great conversation starter! I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces, meeting new readers, and chatting about our favorite stories before and after the screening.

Overall, I had a wonderful night, and Michelle did a wonderful job hosting this event! I look forward to hopefully attending more events!
